I think I could see me being tempted to offer this to my primary partner. But the reality is, there is so much here for me to wrap my brain around in terms of the difference between communication, when people don't want to communicate or can't, and what to do once you've communicated as effectively as you can and the person just doesn't agree. You're completely write. Learning moments all over this article. Mind and heart hurting, expanding. I appreciate what you've written here.

Thanks for this. I am seven months into a relationship with an amazing man who is trying to break some not-so-great (lack of) communication habits. This helps me both understand where he is coming from and where we'd both like to wind up. Much appreciated.

Great article!! (Although I'm also always interested in bending people to my nefarious will *grin*)

The Calvin & Hobbes cartoon isn't showing up well on my screen -- I can't read the text, even if I increase the text size. I think that it may be reduced too much to fit the column size of the blog -- would it be possible to make the image a link to a higher-resolution version of the scan?

I agree with what you're saying, but there's also such a thing as *over* communicating. I've run across people who, after something has been discussed, processed, and done with, they still think that it has to continuously be "communicated". Talking about it over and over again isn't going to accomplish anything more, especially if the people just don't agree.
